This course is a one practical session for those involved in the day-to-day maintenance and use of hand held hedge-cutters. At the end of the course trainees will be able to understand their responsibilities, both to themselves and to others, understand the Health and Safety at Work Act, as well as being able to use and maintain a hedge-cutter efficiently and safely. 

Cost: £160 + VAT including Lantra certification for one day course. A 2 day course may be required. Please contact us for dates and prices.

Course Objectives:-

  • Understand Legislation, Health and Safety, Risk       Assessment relating to hand held hedge trimmers 
  • Choose Machine type/suitability for work to be undertaken 
  •  Identify and maintain PPE for hedge trimmer use and            operation 
  •  Identify key controls and functions 
  •  Prepare hedge trimmer for operation 
  •  Carry out routine maintenance 
  • Operate machinery safely and efficiently 
  •  Awareness of working at heights 
  •  Environmental considerations 
  •  Discuss hedge types and finishes 
  •  Dispose of arisings 
  • Store and transport hand held hedge trimmers

Required Equipment:

  • hedge-cutter(one per person if possible)
  • Tools suitable for machine to be used  
  • Fuel – 2 stroke
  • Angle box grease
  • First Aid Kit
  • Safety visor (plastic) or safety goggles/spectacles  
  • Ear defenders
  • Safety boots
  • Safety trousers  
  • Outdoor clothing
